Duterte Signs Law to Provide at Least P10,000 Monthly Unemployment Insurance for SSS Member

A law measure to provide unemployment insurance for SSS members was signed by President Rodrigo Duterte.

If he or she had been paying the maximum salary credit, the involuntary dismissed member can get at least P10,000 per month.

A maximum of two months, the members who will claim the benefit can enjoy it.

A law measure which seeks to provide unemployment insurance to the members of Social Security System or SSS who were dismissed from their work was signed by President Rodrigo Duterte.

Republic Act 11199 or the Social Security Act of 2019 on February 8 was signed by President Duterte. The Republic Act 11199 was authored by Senator Richard Gordon.

The measure is the first one in the country to provide involuntary separation benefits for two months while the members are still trying to find for a new employment according to a report by Manila Bulletin.

A member can get at least P10,000 if the member had been paying the contributions under the maximum salary credit said Senator Gordon. Nevertheless, an involuntary unemployed member can get the benefit which is equivalent to 50% of his average monthly salary credit for a maximum of two months according to Section 14-B of RA 11199.

The law stated that those who can avail the benefit must be below 60-years-old and a member can only get it once every three years as stated by Esquire Magazine report.

President Duterte signed a law to amend the charter of SSS includes the mandatory SSS coverage for the overseas Filipino workers or OFWs.
