Here’s Why You Shouldn’t Depend on a 9-to-5 Job

It’s very common, especially to us, Filipinos. We are taught that the right way to live your life is study hard, graduate, and find the job of your dreams that offer a good salary then you can marry.

Because of this mindset, many prefer to look for a job after they graduate rather than creating a business out of their passion.

Before, doing such thing is hard. It’s closer to impossible. But with today’s technology, you can create a business out of your passion. Drawings, anime and graphic designing are some of those skills that online entrepreneurs are looking for. If you are good at writing then you can
earn by offering your services to others. Normally, clients do offer $25 to $40 per article. If clients want you to rewrite articles or text twist they offer $10 to $20 depending on the quality of your work. If you offer lower than that, mostly you get low quality work. Some entrepreneurs are lucky to find rare freelancer that offer more quality than what they paid for.

Depending on your skills, you can start your own company in no time. Most of smart entrepreneur starts by employing themselves to a company that is similar to their dream business. Why waste money paying for a professional or course to learn the in and outs of your dream business when you can learn all those things while getting paid.

If you don’t find a way to make money while you sleep, you will work until you die.

Warren Buffett

This is true to many people. Many are still working at their retirement age for money. Others are having a hard time surviving their daily life for their pensions
are not enough to cover their basic needs.

Working on a low-paying 9-to-5 jobs is stressful but most individuals still depends on it because they don’t know some other way to earn money. Another reason could be, they don’t know what else to do or how to do it. Others are unwilling to put in the work to find out. They want to have someone to spoon-feed those information to them– so they rather continue along the traditional path than doing those extra work.

Only intelligent individuals who disregard the path of the majority and create their own trail are able to just that.

Thoughts to Remember

There is no better time to succeed than now. Now is the perfect time to start your own business because building a business, especially through online is easier than most of people think. Yes, it takes time. Yes, you need to work more than your 9-to-5 jobs at first. It will require some sleepless nights but it’s all worth it. Because someday, when your business gets bigger, you’ll start hiring people to do those work for you. You have more free time to develop new income source while spending more time with your family. This is actually what is really happening, but in the mindset of an employee, it’s unfair that they do all the hard work and paid so little while their boss do little to nothing but earns a lot. They will never understand that before all those things happen, before all the success
the company has, entrepreneurs and business owners spent sleepless nights doing and improving the company system to make it successful. They never see how many tears those entrepreneur cried, those times when they only eat noodles or “tinapa” just to save more money and fund their businesses. How many hurtful and discouraging words they hear from their family and friends.

Creating a business or having an extra gig is worth all those hard work and sacrifices. Depending on a 9-to-5 job alone won’t work. Here are a few of may reasons to never depend on a 9-to-5 job.

Job Insecurity

Most graduates will take any job, at any pay rate, even when it’s below what their educational level might indicate because more and more graduates with impressive results are tossed aside by companies on a daily basis.

Company naturally go for the cost-saving options, so when a company sees someone ready to render the same services as you do with lower rate, they hire that someone instead of you.

You don’t know when are you going to be handed a termination letter or the words, “You’re fired”, could be thrown at you and everything you depend on taken apart right before your eyes. Given that you are good at handling your finances, and you have emergency funds, but will it last longer? Will your emergency funds enough to cover all those expenses when you are still on the process of finding a new job? Having a sideline business or gig is better than not having at all.

Just imagine how your life would be easier if you have an emergency savings and at the same time, you have a sideline business that allows you enough time to find another job or enough time to improve your sideline business and make it as your primary source of income.

Limited Experience

Specialization on a particular field maybe an advantage if the company you are working for is doing a good or great, but it can also serve as your gateway to failure because of company misadventures.

The future is never guaranteed. The company you are working for now may be dominating the market and generating massive profit but in years to come things could happen. Bankruptcy can spring up at any time and force any company to do away with certain employees that might include you.

If this happens, it’s almost impossible for you to pick up the pieces and master a new skill/trade. Mastering a new skill/trade takes time and your not getting any younger.

There are many new opportunities along the way. Many income streams to create and choose from through strategic investing or even franchising, which a lot of mega sports stars and celebrities are now focusing on once they retire. However, if you focus only on your 9-to-5, you’ll find it difficult to learn of these trends, much less actually earn money off of them.

There Is No Lifelong Pension Anymore

Before, almost all large companies paid pensions to workers who attained a certain age, but now, most business owners devise a way to lay them off once employees grow weak and incapable.

If there is a big probability that this thing will happen to you at a later time, might as well consider different options now like building your own business and becoming your own boss.

Limited Space and Time

If you are working on a 9-to-5 job, you don’t have enough opportunity to explore and engage on your desired activities. We desire different lifestyles and irrespective of what ideal lifestyle you crave, a rigid career life will never make it happen. Your space and time are very limited. They paid you a small amount of money for your space and time. If you want to get it back, you need to start building your own business that will allow you more space and time to explore, engage and grow.

Domination By An Employer

Depending solely on a single job creates a greater potential that you will undervalued or underappreciated because your employer is aware of your apparent lack of
alternatives.

If you want to live on your terms and doing your things your own way. Start building your own business, NOW!
