Birth Certificate No Longer Needed For Passport Renewal

Preparing too many documents that are required for passport renewal is a bit of a hassle, isn’t it? Good news, because the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) just recently announced that a Birth Certificate is no longer needed for passport renewal.

Passport Renewal Requirements: (18 years old and above)

-Confirmed online appointment
-Accomplished application form
-Current ePassport with a photocopy of the data page
-Personal appearance

Passport Renewal Requirements: (FOR MINORS)

-Confirmed online appointment (if applicable)
-Accomplished application form
-Personal appearance of minor applicant and either parent or authorized adult companion
-Current ePassport with a photocopy of the data page
-Marriage Certificate (if only one parent is accompanying the child)
-Original and photocopy of proof of filiation or guardianship
-Passport or valid government-issued ID of either parent with one photocopy
-School ID (If applicable)

Passport Renewal

Who will need to present a Birth Certificate?

-First-time passport applications
-Applicants in the DFA watchlist
-Renewal applications for lost or mutilated passports
-Renewals requiring changes in personal information
-Renewal applications of old brown and green passports bearing no complete middle name

List of IDs that DFA accept:

-UMID
-Postal ID
-Driver’s License
– Voter’s ID
-GSIS ID
-SSS ID
-PRC ID
– School iD (for enrolled or fresh graduate)
-Student Permit
– Voter’s certificate 
-OWWA or iDOLE card
-Senior Citizen ID
-PNP Firearms License
-Airman license (Must be issued from August 2016 onwards)
-Valid passport (for renewals)
-Residence Card (for applicants overseas)

List of IDs that DFA DO NOT accept:

– Barangay ID
– Barangay Clearance
– LTO Driver’s License receipt
– SSS E-1 Form
– paper-format Student Driver’s permit
-Tax Identification Number (TIN) card
-Company ID
-Pag-IBIG
-PhilHealth
-Police Clearance
– NBI Clearance (Only serves as a supporting document)
