Here’s what you should do when your sim gets lost or stolen

  • The first thing to do is to take note of the time and circumstances of the loss because you will need that information when you request an affidavit.
  • Then report a lost or stolen SIM card. You may contact or visit your telco provider to report it and inquire about the requirements for SIM replacement if you want it to be replaced.
  • Visit a notary public where you can have your affidavit legally acknowledged.
  • Once all the requirements are ready, go back to your telco provider. Submit all the requirements to get your sim replaced.

As per the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC), a SIM owner is obligated to immediately report to the authorities if a SIM gets lost or stolen.

NTC also reminded the public that selling stolen SIMs is illegal under the law. If someone is caught doing this they will be imprisoned for six months to two years. There’s also a fine of not less than P100,000 but not more than P300,000, or both shall be imposed.
