Guide on How to be a PhilHealth Member as a Student

Everyone must have health insurance regardless of age. Either young or senior, we must have our health insurance so if any emergencies happen, we are insured. Good thing, Philhealth now offers membership to everyone, including students. So if you’re a student and you’re planning to get your own health insurance, here’s a guide on how to be a student PhilHealth member.

Who can apply to be a student PhilHealth member?

For students below 21 years old, if they want to become a PhilHealth member, they don’t have to pay for the contributions. They will be under their parent’s membership. They will be a dependents on their parent’s account.

For students above 21 years old, once they reach that certain age, they must pay for their membership by themselves. They must register as formally employed or voluntary member and pay for the minimum monthly premium

How about those students that is 21 years old but can’t afford to pay monthly?

Those students who can’t afford to pay for the monthly contribution can apply for to be inactive member. So they’ll be able to still avail the benefits until they find a job and earn money to pay.

What are the Requirements Needed?

For students below 21 years old
  1. PhilHealth Member Registration Form (PMRF) of the parents
  2. Birth Certificate
  3. Valid ID (2)
  4. Court Decree/ resolution of adoption (For adopted children)
  5. Marriage Certificate between natural parent and stepmother/stepfather (For stepchildren)
For students above 21 years old (Inactive Member)
  1. Birth Certificate
  2. Barangay Clearance
  3. Marriage Certificate (if married)
  4. Certification from the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO)

It is important to have health insurance even at a young age. Aside from its main purpose to help us financially in terms of hospitalization, it also teaches us to be responsible by means of being prepared for the future.
