It’s hard when someone you love passes away. It is emotionally painful and at the same time, it affects you financially because preparing for the funeral is a bit expensive. Good thing that SSS created a way to help people who lost their loved ones via SSS Burial/Funeral Claim.
In August 2015, SSS created a funeral grant called SSS Burial/Funeral Claim to whoever will shoulder the burial expenses of the person who passed away. They can get Php 20,000 up to Php 40,000 depending on the members’ paid contributions.
Documents that a claimant needs to prepare:
- Download and Fill up the Funeral Claim Application Form
Download here: https://www.sss.gov.ph/sss/DownloadContent?fileName=funeral_claim_application_ret01222.pdf
- Prepare claimants SSS card or two valid IDs (with photo and signature)
- Death Certificate (PSA Certified copy)
*Some funeral parlor may offer assistance to file funeral claim themselves as a part their service and you may consider to avail that to lessen the hassle
- Official receipt from the funeral parlor for the funeral expenses (Original copy)
*Inform the funeral parlor to put the claimant name on the receipt so that there are no supporting documents needed
- New residence certificate of the claimant
Once all the documents are already prepared, go ahead and visit the nearest SSS branch and submit your requirements for filing a funeral claim.
After that, they will verify all the documents you submitted and once confirmed, you will be given a claim stab for the cheque.
In addition, you will receive a text from SSS once your cheque was received.
